Don’t know what to wear? Here are 5 easy outfit combos to try now, or save for later…

When you’re in a rush, trying to find something to wear can feel like it takes forever to do. Personally, I don’t like to have to over-think what to wear, so I love to have outfit ideas stock-piled away for future reference. I find this really helps avoid the “I don’t know what to wear” dilemma, and also helps make the getting ready process quicker. So, in this post, I’m sharing some outfit combos you can try out in these last few weeks of summer, or save for later.

Also, one thing I love about these outfits is the way they reflect a balance between different styles. Most of the looks feature a casual-meets-dressy vibe, or mixing feminine pieces with more edgy or casual pieces. I find that mixing aesthetics in this way creates interesting looks, and is an easy way to style your pieces in new ways. So, say goodbye to “|-don’t-know-what-to-wear” and keep scrolling for some outfit inspo.

Tailored Shorts & Printed Blouse

Tailored shorts offer a great alternative to skirts. They look chic, while adding an interesting aspect to an outfit (and they are very comfortable). My go-to shorts are tailored Bermuda shorts. I scored the ones I’m wearing, below, from H&M a few seasons ago and they have been a spring, summer (and even fall) staple ever since). Culottes would also offer a similar option. For this outfit, adding a blouse in a fun print like zebra or a geometric pattern, adds a fun and interesting element to the look. For my outfit, I decided to stick with a neutral palette of beige and black to echo the print of the blouse. (Side note: If you prefer to wear neutrals, adding a piece in a neutral pattern is a great way to incorporate patterns and prints in a way that still suits a neutral aesthetic). One can easily take a more colourful direction with this outfit combo and exchange the printed blouse for a blouse in a fun colour, like pink or yellow. To keep with the lady-like elegance of the outfit, I chose to go with a structured bag and classic strappy sandals in a cream tone, which just played the perfect supporting roles to the blouse, which was truly the centrepiece of this look.

Cargo Jeans & Florals

Cargo pants have been trending for the 2023 spring and summer seasons and many brands have created different of iterations of this trend, ranging from satin cargo trousers to the throwback style of parachute pants. However, the version of cargo pants that have become my favourite is: cargo jeans. I find that cargo jeans offer great versatility in styling and in terms of longevity, would be very wearable because denim is never out of fashion. So, I chose to style some cargo jeans from Zara with a floral top, which created an interesting intersection of the toughness and edginess of the cargo pants and the softness of the floral print. I wanted to keep the balance of edgy and soft in this outfit, so I paired a pink chain-strap purse with some turquoise sling back heels (pink and turquoise are 2 trending colours for summer 2023). For this type of outfit, you can make the contrast as dramatic as you want. For example, you could go really edgy with cargo jeans or pants that have distressing details or raw hems. If you don’t have a floral top, then you could opt for a top in a soft colour, like a pastel pink or lilac; or go for a top with feminine details like ruching, lace or chiffon fabric.

Of all the outfits I’ve worn this summer, this one is hands-down my fave. Periodt.

T-Shirt & Satin Slip Skirt

T-shirts and slip skirts- two classic pieces that, when combined, are a true reflection of casual-chic. Slip skirts have become a wardrobe staple and are available in so many different colours and cuts. Sometimes, the best companion to a satin skirt and all it’s sophisticated elegance is a classic t-shirt. I find this outfit combo strikes the just-right balance between dressy and cool, especially when paired with a pair of heels. For accessories, there are so many options you can choose because the outfit really is a blank canvas; however, one thing I love to do is style a statement accessory with these types of outfits. For this outfit, I chose to go with a statement purse in this beautiful pattern. The lady-like top handle style of the bag really compliments the elegance of the satin skirt, while the print adds some beautiful colours to the look. The purse is truly the star of this look.

Florals & Pastels

This outfit combo features fun colours from head-to-toe. Starting things off is a cute and colourful floral top, which is then paired with a pair of pastel lilac-hued trousers that accentuate the fun and feminine aspects of this outfit. Then, to carry on the colour theme, I added in some pink heeled sandals. A cute pink purse topped off the look, and I can confidently say that cotton candy may have been the inspiration for this outfit. This outfit doesn’t feature a juxtaposition of contrasting styles, but I will say that the style tip for this outfit is to experiment with colourful looks. With this outfit, I wanted to try styling an look without a neutral piece (I also count denim as a neutral piece because it tends to go with everything), and this outfit was a great result. I built this outfit around the floral top and trying to echo the colours in top through the other pieces, which is a great way to build an outfit if it you’re not sure where to start: pick one piece and style everything else to compliment or highlight it.

Blazer & Bike Shorts

This outfit combo is another one of my favourites and would work great for a day out with friends, shopping, or brunching. It’s chic; it’s comfortable; and it’s an outfit that looks very much put-together. The over-sized blazer balances out the casual-ness of the bike shorts, and you can opt to make the look more dressed up with jewelry. If you wanted to make this outfit look more casual, I would then opt for an over-sized t-shirt and leave the blazer unbuttoned for a no-fuss style. For footwear, you can opt for heeled sandals, like I did, or you can make the outfit more casual with a pair of sneakers or flat slides.
